About the data

WhoUses reveals which organizations are behind any internet asset. Here is where those associations come from and how they are built.

1.What is WhoUses?

WhoUses lets you reverse-look-up the organizations behind any internet asset — a domain, IP address, subnet, or SSL/TLS certificate. Instead of asking "which assets does this company own?" — or getting only the hosting provider from a WHOIS lookup — WhoUses answers the inverse question: "which organizations use this asset?"

It is a free playground preview powered by Scovery’s data.

2.Where the data comes from

Every result is derived from the digital perimeters discovered across the 4 million+ organizations that Scovery scores every month. To build those perimeters, Scovery continuously collects open data at global scale:

  • Passive DNS
  • Internet-wide scans
  • Cyber threat intelligence indicators
  • Certificate transparency logs
  • WHOIS (IP, gTLD & ccTLD)
  • Web crawling
  • Company registries

3.How organizations are linked to assets

All of this data is aggregated every month into a massive graph-based model of the Internet, built and maintained by Scovery — over 8 billion digital assets (IP addresses, domains, subdomains, TLS certificates…) connected by over 21 billion relationships.

From this graph, each organization’s digital perimeter is automatically discovered using a proprietary graph-traversal algorithm enhanced by AI-driven heuristics, which continuously adapt to associate assets with the right organization even as its digital footprint evolves.

WhoUses simply reads this mapping in reverse: given an asset, it returns the organizations whose discovered perimeter includes it — so results reflect what is actually observable on the public Internet.

4.Update frequency

The underlying graph and the discovered perimeters are refreshed monthly. Associations therefore evolve over time as organizations’ digital footprints change, new assets appear, and old ones are retired.

5.Limitations

Associations are based on externally observable data and statistical, heuristic models. They reflect what is observed on the public Internet — not internal records — and may be incomplete or change over time. The free playground preview is limited to 5 organizations per asset.
